Day 2 went a bit more smoothly than the first day with the heavy rains. We woke up, had a bit of breakfast, and started setting up the tent at our actual campsite, about 50 yards from the yurt.
After we got things somewhat situated, we headed into Green Bay to go the the New Zoo. It's very new and a pretty nice zoo. Not huge either so it didn't take too crazy long to go thru it. Now, we didn't hit the whole thing, but I would say that did about 80% of it.
What made it even better is that since we have the family pass at the Blank Park Zoo in Des Moines, we got in for free at the New Zoo! Go figure.
We were going to make sandwiches at the car and eat on our way to the Childrens Museum of Green Bay, when we noticed a decent sized park on the back side of the parking lot, complete with picnic tables, pond, trails and lots of seagulls that FREAKED Caleb out!!! We got thru lunch with some birdies flying around our heads taunting the boy and then walked around the lake.
The Childrens Museum of Green Bay is also rather new and not what I think of when I hear museum. There was a Packers room with a tail gating area (all toys), an interactive video screen where you could throw a football, basketball, or kick a soccer ball at it. A locker room where you can "suit up" for the big game and a faux padded wall where you could practice your own Lambeau Leap, which we did.
Other exihibits were a fire station room, a room to build stuff with tinker toys, cardboard shapes, erector sets, lincoln logs, legos and so on. A market where you can select groceries, weigh your produce and check out. A light house, a tree house, water exhibit, a little old style cafe and so on.
Not much to do for adults but the boys had a blast!
We then went to Lambeau field, but didn't do the tour this time. Just went thru the gift shop and the only thing we purchased, much to Robby's chagrin, was a long sleeved Packers shirt for Caleb as he doesn't have many wintery style shirts.
Back to the campground for some supper, swimming and fires before bedtime.
I would gladly include pictures but the internet is spotty, at best, here at the camp ground. I'll post some of the good ones when we get back home or if we have better wifi at Pictured Rocks in a few days.
All is well,
Ted
Hey, I can assure Caleb he is not overreacting with this seagulls... I was nearly killed by a flock of Grand Marais seagulls for a bite of scotcheroo two years ago. Just ask Uncle Frank (who was more than willing to throw me under the proverbial bus at the time).
