Vaca 2021, Day 8 - Part II - Horseshoe Canyon & Driving to Kanab, UT

After the disappointment of the Covid refused tower but WILDLY open gift/ice cream shop (if you can't tell, I'm still bitter about such obvious nonsense!  Check the previous post.), we head off down the road.

Some scenes while driving.

More of the same.

Cool road cut.

After a good many miles, we stopped at the Horseshoe Bend thingymabob in Utah after traversing, as my journal says, a big-a$$3d mountain and going down the other side (really fast!!)! We got to the parking lot of the horseshoe thing and it was stupid hot!

So when we got to Horseshoe Bend, we decided that it would behoove all of us to use the potty's before the hike.  We didn't really know the length of the hike, but hey, it can't hurt.  The conundrum was that the potty's were in the opposite direction of the trail-head and as such, we had to "hike" in a direction across rather hot asphalt to get to the potties.  This was my favorite sign tho!  Caleb is adopted from China, where there are lots of "squatty potties".  I can only let my imagination take me to place that required this this sign!!!

Off to the trail we go, waters in hand.  If you can't tell by the terrain in the pic, it's HOT!!!

It's still hot...  in case you're wondering.  And windy.  The wind would normally be welcomed in the desert, but the wind itself is hot and is picking up sand, so any exposed skin is getting "gently" sand-blasted.

The famous picture of the Colorado River, called Horseshoe Bend.

If you're still wondering after seeing my hair, it is WINDY!!!  All of us decided that it would be better to just look at pictures of this on the world wide interwebs than to hike down to it.  However, we're also glad that we got to see it once.

Back into the car, drinking LOTS of water, and off to Kanab, UT. where we'll be staying at an Air Bn'b at 106 N. Main St.

We had some excellent food at The Wild Thyme cafe too, so if you find yourself in Kanab, you may want to look them up!  There's also a really cool little liquor store called Border Store that is about 1.5 miles south of this rental house, just across the border into Arizona.  The dude that runs the joint is an old guy who knows his beer.  I could have talked to him for hours and wish that I had the time to do so!  I love meeting people like him where there's a story with a little history behind every subject discussed.

This is "something" that was hanging in the dining room, just to the left of the door to the basement where the laundry was located.  We were playing Blitz and I was remarking that this was the face of the people in the basement that would "not spare us" when we went down to do laundry.  Turns out, the basement was very clean and there were no wood-headed-spoon-nosed murderers down there...  at least from what I saw.

A look from the living room window.

The back, secluded patio.

The "yard".  Rob and Caleb playing baseball catch.

The front of our Air Bn'B.

LOL!!!  Rob, channeling his dad, OBVIOUSLY disagreeing with a recent family decision!!

I have much more detail written in my note book that further explains my dislike of digital thermostats! If you own a property that is rented out, you really should have a thermostat/climate control system that is easily operated!

This house did not have that and it was somewhat difficult to exist, but I also understand that these are first world problems and I really shouldn't complain AT ALL about it.

We ended up liking this house, but there was some work to be done to get there.
