The Calm before the Storm

Mom and dad left today and took Rosey. We really appreciate them watching her while we are gone. Since she has a bit of an anxiety issue it is awesome that she will be with familiar people most of the time. Meanwhile, we are doing lots of laundry and starting to pack. I confirmed our tickets and everything is fine. However I feel like I am repressing panic. I don't really know why - maybe a combination of excitement and the unknown.

Robby is playing football in the living just as he does every day. His big concern is that I made him choose whether he wanted to wear his Hawk jersey or if he wanted to take it to China. It is going to China. The bigger crisis was that his Bradford jersey didn't make it into the wash with the rest of his clothes.

Ted found some street in Beijing that has tons of music stores. I imagine he is trying to figure out how to get a guitar home. He is busy packing. He doesn't seem nervous at all. I guess I'm going to go color my hair so I don't have gray hair when I meet my new kiddo.

Family Day

We had our local family over for breakfast today. It was a nice change from dinner. Ted made breakfast burritos and we had waffles as well. It is Sam's 4th birthday and I put 4 candles into 1 donut hole and we sang for him.

After breakfast we decorated gingerbread houses. This has become somewhat of a tradition. My mom makes and puts together a house for us, my sister, and Ted's 2 sisters. The kids were really into it this year and 4 houses were covered with a variety of candy.

It was good to have everyone over. A nice way to spend a Saturday morning. We are on a countdown to leaving for China - 10 days and counting.

Step 1

Really this isn't step 1, we've been saying we should do this for quite some time. We have wanted to document the adoption process and quite frankly haven't done as good as we have wanted to. I guess better late than never. We are very close to traveling to get Caleb and we are a combination of excited, nervous, and downright scared. International travel is way out of our comfort zone. At dinner tonight I realized that I am going to have to keep the table cleaner since we will be using 4 places instead of 3. How awesome it that?

The biggest thing we have to do before we go is to buy Caleb a bed. Our plan is to do it Black Friday with hopes we can get a good deal. We are also in the process of figuring out really exciting things like what suitcases to take.

So stay tuned, there is more to come and it will be an exciting adventure.
