NYC Vaca 2023 - Day 6 - Brooklyn Bridge, China Town and Off-Broadway

Today saw us, like usual, walking to Grand Central Station to catch a train to Brooklyn so that we could, for better or worse, walk back to Manhattan over the Brooklyn Bridge so we can visit China town.

Lesley took this pic and I had no clue where it was taken.  She thinks it was at Grand Central Station before we boarded the train to head South into Brooklyn so we could walk back into lower Manhattan by way of the aptly named, Brooklyn Bridge.  Oh, and what the heck is in those large bowls you ask?  Various and sundry teas.  LOTS of teas.

We have 'arroved' in Brooklyn and surfaced from the subway not knowing which way to turn.  So, we set out walking and discovering.  I took this picture as I am amazed at the scaffolding in this area having set up a lot of scaffold in my younger years.  The tallest building is completely surrounded by scaffolding but on top of that, there's that heavy blue screening that protects walkers like us from catching a monkey wrench on the top of the melon!

That's the Manhattan Bridge there and a dude taking a picture of us taking a picture of him!

Family selfie!

There's the Brooklyn bridge a good many blocks away and that's where we're headed.

Better view of the Manhattan bridge.

Manhattan in the background, the Brooklyn bridge again and that square building is an old 1922 carousel that's been restored, called Jane's Carousel.  This general area may or may not figure into a future KISS related post. :-)

A more gooder view of that.

Passing under the Brooklyn bridge.

One thing we noticed about NYC in general is that they have taken every opportunity afforded to them to have these wonderful little parks/green spaces or whatever you want to call them and most of them are beautiful.  This one was no exception!

And this wasn't very far away from that previous pic too.  We didn't go up into this one, but man, was it ever pretty!

It was getting to be lunch time so we hit up Juliana's Pizza and Grimaldi's Pizzeria (next door to each other) and ate our lunch at a picnic table on Dock St. underneath the Brooklyn bridge.  The pizza's were both good.

Our lunch spot.

With full belly's, we resumed walking, (and walking, and walking) until we finally figured out how to get ourselves up onto the friggin' bridge!

Now we're talking!

Family selfie #2!

Have I mentioned that it is hot and my dumb arse wore a black t-shirt??

I paused us in shaded spots a few times so I could drink water in peace and hope that my blood pressure would level out.  I wasn't feeling great at this point.  That being said, it's really cool to see the amount of art being created on the bridge and other stuff that goes on for people to make a living.

Doesn't look like we've made any progress!

mmmmmmm...  shade.

Getting closer!

Very close to Manhattan now!

One of the critters asked where kids go to school in NYC. Well, this is one place.  It's Murry Bergtraums High School for Business Careers.

Sasquatch siting!

This was on the edge of China Town in a little city block park. We paused because I felt like ****!

Then there was food!  It was pretty much across the road from the little park in the previous pic.  We just got a bit of food to share. It was good!

Caleb eating and me proving that I do indeed, know how to flare my right nostril!  I'm really people watching as there was PLENTY of that to do!

We are in China town.  Anyone need a fish?

Caleb got his rice hat!

It was a store around this point where I went in and found a running fan.  I place my butt right in front of it and was truly enjoying slight air conditioning along with rapidly moving air on my backside when the Chinese shop owner came over and chewed my slightly cooler ass out and then asked me to leave the store for hogging the fan!  lol  It was worth it!

I think this is actually after I got booted for cooling my booty!

What is with this doorway with the little cement thingy-ma-bogs sticking out???

Now why would I bother to have my picture taken in a doorway in China town?  You just might have to come back to a future KISS related post to get that answer!  Also, notice the sweat mark that has nearly reached belly-button level at this point...  sad.

Back at Grand Central.  This site may very well figure in to that same future KISS related post!

Same.  We're heading back to our hotel room now so we can rest and get showered up for our final night on the town.  Showers are NEEDED!

So, if you know me, I refuse to call cheese bread with pizza sauce, cheese pizza.  So Mama Chaos and Rob were going to a Harry Potter show a few blocks from where Caleb and I were going to an off-broadway show called Shucked, yes, all about corn... kind of.  There was a pizza place right next door to the theatre that we were going to and we decided to stop in for a slice.  I completely panicked at the selection afforded to me and picked a piece based on the name alone.  It was thick crust, not my favorite, and it was only cheese...  I refused to eat the friggin crust.  So I had some cheese with a bit of pizza sauce on it.  Complete and utter b.s.

We were NOT excited for this show and decided to take a pic to send to mom and Rob.

The view of the stage from our seats.  Both of us walked out of there having laughed quite a bit.  The first 15 minutes of this thing were slow and not funny and it was tempting to just leave.  Glad we didn't.  It was FUNNY.

Rob at the Harry Potter show with...  something.  Looks like a breakfast cereal with Hawaiian Punch poured over it.

Mama Chaos and Rob waiting for the Potter known as Harry.  They seem noticeably happier at their show!

Mama took a few pics on the way back to the hotel (where Caleb and I already were!).

And that's a wrap for the last full day of vaca in NYC.  What will tomorrow bring?  It'll be a surprise to me too since I can't remember at this point.

See you then!
